Find out more about Soul of Africa Youth Leadership

62.4% of the population in Sierra Leone are under the age of 25 years. Our work is driven by the belief that Sierra Leone is a country with great potential and its youth is its greatest resource and the agent for change that the country needs.

Background to SoAYL

Soul of Africa Youth Leadership is a youth leadership programme, developed by Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora in the UK, following the devastating war in Sierra Leone and in response to the needs identified by local school children and elders. This programme was initially launched in 2009 as a one-week leadership camp and has evolved over the years to a one-year free programme delivered mainly on a Saturday afternoon.

Our Vision

Support young people in Sierra Leone to become future leaders with integrity who will positively transform their country and make a significant contribution to Africa and the world’s growth and sustainability.

Our Principles

The programme and everything we do is underpinned by the following principles;

  • Respect for self, fellow humans and the environment

  • Responsibility

  • Integrity

  • Service to others

  • Self-belief,  positive thinking and action

Our Philosophy

We learn, share our knowledge and skills and as we grow, we give back to our communities, country, Africa and the world.

Who runs the program?

We employ one full time Programme coordinator. The programme is heavily dependent on Volunteers, Programme Facilitators, supported by School liaison teachers, a management committee in Sierra Leone. Visit our Governance page for more information on our team.
